Mary in the Morning. . . with Heather Daniels

Just wanted to alert you all who are reading this that I will be on the above named show that will stream on the web www.1067youfm.com from 6:30 to 7 AM Eastern time on the 15th.  If you are up that early, tune in.  The show is out of Traverse, MI.  we are going to talk about my new book: Cultivating Hope.  I am so pleased with the attention that book is getting. Hope is in short supply these days for many people.  Those of us who have some need to consider holding it out for those who don't.  In that way, we can all feel comforted.  We must give away that[...]

Well, with help, I did it. . .

My first You Tube is now available on Google, thanks to a very good friend.  We always second guess ourselves, don't we.  My first reaction was surprise; my next reaction was: My hair looks awful!  And then I had to strain to hear it.  Obviously the volume was turned down on my computer, and I didn't  realize it.  All things to be improved upon in the next attempt. As we have all been told so many times, practice results in progress and I intend to make progress.  Just doing it feels  like a major achievement, however.  Adding this to the many new things[...]

Look for me on UTube. . .

It had to happen.  I had to finally take the plunge.  I tell people at workshops and in books all the time that I have written that when an idea keeps nudging you, follow it.  I am following my own advice.  It's fun and yet a bit scary to go in so many new directions all at once but why not.  If others can blog, so can I.  If others can tweet, so can I.  And if others can make videos for UTube, it's my turn to do it too.  Look for it later today or tomorrow under the category HOPE.  I am going to be talking about my new book: CULTIVATING HOPE from Hazelde[...]

I am now a tweeter. . .

Joining this high tech world at my age makes me smile.  And smiling is good.  I do hope you will check out my tweets. Go to twitter.com.  I just did and lots of people have responded to stuff I have said.  AMAZING.  I think I may have been born too late, however.  But that opens the door to another small topic of interest to me. We are, as A Course in Miracles says, in the right place at the right time, always!  That means, of course, that I was born at the right time too and I do think the planets have lined up in my favor.  How else could I have had all[...]

Thinking about Labor Day…

I was thinking about what Labor Day used to mean to me this morning as I sat by the lake. I taught elementary school in the early 60's for 8 years and Labor Day meant the end of my glorious time off.  I always went back to the classroom somewhat reluctantly, that is until the first week was under my belt.  And then it all felt comfortable again. As a kid I can remember how conflicted I felt about Labor Day.  I both wanted to go back to school and dreaded finding out who my teacher would be.  The anxiety I lived with in childhood shadowed me for most of my lif[...]

Hope is a decision that can be made and remade. . .

First let me say that I am delighted to see that some of you have been responding to my new blog.  Please invite your friends to do the same.  We learn from one another.  I certainly don't have many of the answers to life's problems but I have learned to seek the solutions from fellow-travelers on this path we share. Because of the very recent release of my newest book on hope, I want to share another one of the essays from the book today.  I want you to get a feel for what's there should you be interested in going to amazon.com or Hazelden.org or your closes[...]

Hope can be cultivated. . .

Exciting news, every one.  My newest book: Cultivating Hope, is being shipped to stores as I write this.  You can call Hazelden too, at 800-328-9000 or go on amazon.com where you can see inside the book.  I am so happy it's getting released a bit earlier than expected. Current economic conditions for many of us make the cultivation of hope even more necessary.  I want to give you a "taste" of the kind of essays you will find in the book so I am including one here for you to ruminate on: NO ONE IS ON OUR PATH ACCIDENTALLY. How often do you look, with focused i[...]

Solutions to be determined. . .

Detachment is letting the solutions be determined by God. Solutions are seldom simple.  Perhaps that’s because they generally involve other people too.  When any one of us is certain we have the best solution for any problem or situation confronting us, we have quite naturally chosen one that benefits us, or our loved ones.  There’s nothing wrong with that stance.   However, it may not be the best solution for all of the people who are being affected by the situation.  That’s when back- ing off, and letting God be a participant in every decision and the[...]

Detachment is stepping back. . .

Detachment is stepping back from an experience in order to allow room for God to do his part. I seldom remember, without some prodding that I initially resist, that God is a factor in every person’s experience.  My ego’s first inclination is to think I am a necessary fac- tor.  And not just an ordinary one but the deciding one.  Giving up control and letting God be the key influence in the lives of my loved ones is not easy.  It takes trust.  Not only trust in God but trust in others and in my own willingness to approach my experi- ences with all of them[...]
