More will be revealed. . .

I love this simple reminder from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.  It has been the perfect response to sponsees who are fretting about their future.  And, it is the best reminder I, too, can utilize for my own occasional fretting.  I say occasional because I seldom get overwhelmed about the future these days.  All I really have to do is take a moment to recall what God has done for me in the past week.  I know that my needs, every day, are being attended to.  And when I extend my vision far into the past, the examples of how God revealed himself are countless.

Being told by a sponsor many decades ago that I really didn’t need to know any thing more than what was happening at the present moment seemed like heresy.  My entire life needed to be carefully orchestrated.  I was sure of it.  And I needed to be the one directing the orchestra.  Fortunately she pointed out that my directing was what got me into the many predicaments that landed me in AA.  I can still remember being chagrined by her comment.  I was so intent on always looking good, and being in control.  She could see right through me. Fortunately.

Many years have passed since she shared her assessment of me and now I freely give to others her words of wisdom.  How lucky we are that we have only this moment to be concerned about.  I love the freedom of living in the now.  I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do it.  (And I’m far from perfect at it!) I remember reading a book by Ram Daas 30 years ago titled Be Here Now.  I loved the book and the circular form he wrote it in, but I had absolutely no idea how to live as he suggested.  Every waking moment for me was an anxious one because I was looking to the future to assure me that I was okay in the present.

What changed?  Many things coalesced, no doubt, but I can point to a couple significant experiences where “God” made an appearance, not as a vision, but in words that were shared with me.  When this happens for any one of us, nothing ever seems the same again.  In one instance a woman appeared who had not been expected and she shed light on an experience that I was having. Her words were literally life-saving.  In the other instance I was actually given the words to say even though I didn’t perceive who “the giver was” at the time. It seemed like an out-of-body experience, in fact.

Both times I was simply bereft of what to do next and the message came.  I think that’s what it means to surrender.  We can’t be reached unless we really want to be reached and I did.  Thank goodness I did or I’d not be sitting here today connecting with all of you who have come to my blog.

We are in good hands.  Every one of us.  Every minute.  We simply have to believe it and trust that more is being revealed each time we need to know some thing more.
