I\u2019ve mentioned in other posts how important A Course in Miracles<\/i><\/b> has been to my spiritual development.\u00a0 Because \u201cthe course\u201d complements the twelve steps of AA and Al-Anon, I feel many moments of actual joy nearly every day, a pay-off I had never expected.\u00a0 These three pathways have grounded me.\u00a0 For sure, had I not found both twelve step programs a number of decades ago, prior to my introduction to the course, I wouldn\u2019t be alive to explore the ideas I\u2019m tossing your way within these posts.\u00a0 I was headed down a very dark alley, completely unaware of how dire my circumstances were, absolutely ignorant of the danger of my chosen journey then, and without a doubt, hell-bent on being my own worst enemy.<\/p>\n
Perhaps some of you can relate.\u00a0 A post such as this probably wouldn\u2019t have drawn you in if you had never traveled the rocky roads of life.\u00a0 But then who doesn\u2019t end up on a rocky road, at least occasionally.\u00a0 Rocky roads give rise to our lessons.\u00a0 And the lessons are why we live.\u00a0 It\u2019s a cycle, though not a vicious one.\u00a0 It just is, what it is.<\/p>\n
Might you be wondering what \u201cchoosing peace instead of this\u201d is all about?\u00a0 Here\u2019s my take.\u00a0 No one is in charge of my thoughts but me.\u00a0 No One!<\/b>\u00a0 No one is in charge of my actions either.\u00a0 I can and will \u201cshow up\u201d how ever I choose, every instant, within every encounter, whether with a friend, a colleague, a family member or a stranger.\u00a0 Knowing that we have the power, the total power to decide who we will be every instant, makes choosing to be peaceful, rather than controlled by the ugliness of others, a delicious choice.\u00a0 Our choice serves as a great role model for others too.\u00a0 Without suggesting to any one that they should choose peace too, they see our reward <\/i>for themselves.\u00a0 Actions can speak far louder than words.<\/p>\n
When I choose to sit on the sidelines, watching a drama unfold, rather than trying to manage it, particularly one that doesn\u2019t concern me, my heart isn\u2019t elevated.\u00a0 My mind doesn\u2019t race.\u00a0 I don\u2019t feel nervous, or breathless, or emotional.\u00a0 I experience a sense of warm, loving detachment and know immediately that I want more of that feeling.\u00a0 And now I know where to get it.\u00a0 I can and will feel peace, instead of what ever might have nabbed my emotions, when I stay in charge of what I want to feel, to say and do.\u00a0 All three are available to you as well.<\/p>\n
