Feeling hopeless about a situation in your life makes all forward movement seem impossible.\u00a0 It\u2019s not an accident that we have people around us who can share our sorrows and express hope for us when our own is depleted.\u00a0 Our lives are quite intentional, aren\u2019t they?\u00a0 As has been said by thousands of people, nothing is happening accidentally. When one of us is down, another person appears who can show us the rainbow that\u2019s hidden from our view.\u00a0 She didn\u2019t appear haphazardly.\u00a0 She had an assignment.\u00a0 And you are fulfilling that \u201cassignment\u201d on occasion too for some one else.<\/p>\n
I like believing in angels, both ones wearing skin and ones \u201cfrom the other side.\u201d\u00a0 The nudging we get when it\u2019s time to give up a worn out idea just can\u2019t be ignored.\u00a0 We might not let the idea go willingly but \u201cour messenger\u201d persists until we acknowledge the nudge.\u00a0 Instead of fighting it, seeing it as the inspiration to welcome the new opportunities that are wearing our name, makes imminent sense.\u00a0 We aren\u2019t passing through this experience willy-nilly.\u00a0 We have guides.\u00a0 We have assignments.\u00a0 We have others who need our presence as way showers too.<\/p>\n
Knowing that we are never alone with any situation is reason for having hope.\u00a0 Nothing will ever be beyond our capabilities because so much help surrounds us.\u00a0 Much of it we can\u2019t see and we often ignore the signs that are always there.\u00a0 But the people who wander into our gatherings, large or small, have been invited.\u00a0 Always.\u00a0 What an awesome awareness.\u00a0 We don\u2019t always appreciate the \u201cwanderers.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s okay. They don\u2019t need our appreciation to do their work.<\/p>\n
It reminds me of an \u201cangel\u201d who came to my rescue nearly thirty seven years ago.\u00a0 Her name was Pat.\u00a0 I was closer to suicide than I\u2019d ever been, and I had flirted with the idea hundreds of times since childhood.\u00a0 I had even laid what I needed out on the kitchen table.\u00a0 And then a stranger knocked at the door, interrupting my plans.\u00a0 It was an insistent knock.\u00a0 Reluctantly, I opened the door and as Pat entered, my world changed. The details of this experience aren\u2019t what\u2019s important here but what is crucial is that I didn\u2019t know her.\u00a0 Even though we had made an appointment to talk, proof that she shared with me from her calendar, I had no knowledge of having ever met her.<\/p>\n
After a short time together, Pat left and my world had shifted.\u00a0 She was the symbol of hope that had died in my life.\u00a0 What she shared with me about the hopeless state I was in had the ring of truth to it.\u00a0 I knew from the story she shared that God was waiting for me to finish the work I had been called to do.\u00a0 Pat was my bridge to the other side of the dark abyss. \u00a0I never saw her again. \u00a0All that I have done since that fateful day is owing to her rescue.\u00a0 She ignited hope in me where a void had been.\u00a0 I have considered it part of my work to try to pass on hope to others ever since.<\/p>\n
