{"id":2882,"date":"2013-02-06T12:21:05","date_gmt":"2013-02-06T18:21:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womens-spirituality.com\/?p=2882"},"modified":"2013-02-06T12:21:24","modified_gmt":"2013-02-06T18:21:24","slug":"detachment-is-a-gift-that-never-quits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.womens-spirituality.com\/?p=2882","title":{"rendered":"Detachment is a gift that never quits."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Detachment is not being a victim any more<\/strong>. \u00a0Some say there are no victims, only volunteers.\u00a0 When I first heard that phrase, I was mystified.\u00a0 How could a person who suffered at the hands of another be considered a volunteer?\u00a0 But volunteers, we are.\u00a0 Lest you misunderstand, I don\u2019t want to suggest that there are no culprits in this world.\u00a0 However, how we perceive those people who mistreat us is our choice.\u00a0 We can see those who are mean-spirited, or worse, as fearful, angry people who are looking for acceptance, even love, in the only way they know how.\u00a0 We don\u2019t have to stay in their presence.\u00a0 Nor do we have to approve of their actions.\u00a0 But we can seek to understand them and move on.<\/p>\n<p>We are moving along this path to master the lessons we have come here to learn, and those who travel with us, as our compatriots as well as our adversaries, are fulfilling their designated roles too.\u00a0 That\u2019s not easy to fathom if what we experience is unpleasant, but each of us is playing a part in the drama.\u00a0 To not take the actions of others as intentionally hurtful is the best of all lessons.<\/p>\n<p>Detaching from what we are experiencing is a possibility.\u00a0 Always. \u00a0Detaching from the drama of any one else frees us to not only be a better witness to our own life, but to serve as the kind of witness we need to be to the lives of others. \u00a0Our role is never to be victim. \u00a0It&#8217;s never to be the victimizer. \u00a0It&#8217;s to be an interested observer and a kind responder if that&#8217;s what the situation calls for.<\/p>\n<p>Life is often in turmoil. \u00a0For friends and for strangers. \u00a0One thing we can surely do is refrain from adding to the turmoil of any one else&#8217;s life. \u00a0Pause before speaking. \u00a0That will help. \u00a0Pray when a prayer is needed. \u00a0And let the business of others be theirs to handle. \u00a0When ours surfaces, handle it and only it.<\/p>\n<p>Detachment. \u00a0What a sweet concept. \u00a0It allows each one of us to live the life we have been invited to live. \u00a0Nothing more and nothing less.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What a glorious day today can be if I remember my experiences are part of my necessary learning curve. \u00a0And detachment will surely be one opportunity, among many, that I can embrace today.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<div><strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Detachment is not being a victim any more. \u00a0Some say there are no victims, only volunteers.\u00a0 When I first heard that phrase, I was mystified.\u00a0 How could a person who suffered at the hands of another be considered a volunteer?\u00a0 But volunteers, we are.\u00a0 Lest you misunderstand, I don\u2019t want to suggest that there are [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2882","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-circle-of-family-and-friends-you-and-your-personal-community"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
