{"id":184,"date":"2009-11-30T09:07:41","date_gmt":"2009-11-30T14:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karencasey.wordpress.com\/?p=184"},"modified":"2009-11-30T09:07:41","modified_gmt":"2009-11-30T14:07:41","slug":"tis-the-season-to-be-jolly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.womens-spirituality.com\/?p=184","title":{"rendered":"Tis the season to be jolly. . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am not your typical shopper. \u00a0I don&#8217;t run to shop the day after Thanksgiving. \u00a0However, don&#8217;t get me wrong; \u00a0I am not above a good bargain. \u00a0 I simply choose to wander the malls, leisurely, until something strikes my fancy. \u00a0I will pay my visit before the holiday actually arrives, but in the meantime, I do believe there are many additional ways to spread the joy of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The first one, and the easiest I might add, is to look into the eyes, often very tired eyes, of the other travelers on my path. \u00a0Acknowledge them with a smile. \u00a0Every one is deserving of a smile. \u00a0And my own heart smiles when I pass one to some one else. \u00a0Secondly, put a few coins in the Salvation Army bucket that generally stands at the entrance of every store during the holiday season. \u00a0If the published reports are correct, there will be more hungry people this holiday season than in many past decades.<\/p>\n<p>In every community \u00a0there are innumerable gift giving opportunities. \u00a0 Womens&#8217; shelters need gifts for both the women and their children. \u00a0 Check the yellow pages and make a call. \u00a0At the church I attend, we have a Christmas Angel Tree and we can select an angel from the tree and purchase the suggested gift for the young boy or girl who is likely to receive only that gift we buy.<\/p>\n<p>Even though I have never met the children I have bought gifts for, it does not take away from the pleasure of making the selection. \u00a0Spreading joy, in any capacity, is good for one&#8217;s heart and mind. \u00a0If we all did one small thing this holiday season to make it more joyful for some one else, the ringing of the bells around the world would be heard far and wide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am not your typical shopper. \u00a0I don&#8217;t run to shop the day after Thanksgiving. \u00a0However, don&#8217;t get me wrong;
