Living in the now shouldn’t be so hard. \u00a0Should it? \u00a0Most of us no doubt think that’s where we reside. \u00a0However, I’d venture to say we spend more time dwelling on the past or anticipating the future than we spend just soaking up this moment<\/strong><\/em>. Unconsciously our minds slip into those other realms. \u00a0They so easily seduce us, especially if we have lived through trauma of some kind or have fear as our basic mind set. \u00a0Fortunately it is possible to change one’s mind set. \u00a0I didn’t always believe that but being in recovery rooms and committing to a spiritual path has taught me otherwise.<\/p>\n

My past, though not deeply traumatizing, did influence how I interpreted much of my life for the first three decades. \u00a0None of the spiritual principles that have become so helpful, actually so necessary to my life now, were even known to me then. \u00a0I’m not sure I’d have been very open to the idea that “every person we encounter has been sent by God;” <\/strong>or that “we are always in the right place at the right time;” <\/strong>or “that within every relationship are the lessons we have been born to learn.” <\/strong> The principles are many. \u00a0The gifts each offer are life-changing.<\/p>\n

I am so thankful I have been willing to allow these principles to guide me. The way I lived before was in a perpetual state of uncertainty and fear. \u00a0Living in the “moment” wasn’t achievable. \u00a0I didn’t know enough to consider it even desirable. \u00a0I nervously moved from one experience to the next looking for signs that every thing would be okay, not realizing that the presence of whomever was on my path was that sign<\/strong>. \u00a0God had sent him or her. \u00a0And we were being directed.<\/p>\n

My how life has changed. \u00a0What a relief to live free of fear. \u00a0I know my companions are “heaven-sent.” \u00a0I know the same will be true tomorrow. \u00a0I know that God’s divine plan for me is peace and joy and being an example of both for others. \u00a0And I know that if God has another plan for me tomorrow or next year, I will be nudged in a new direction. \u00a0My part is to say “yes.” \u00a0The rest will be taken care of.<\/p>\n

Are you confident that God has “your back?” \u00a0He does.<\/p>\n
