With the passing of Thanksgiving, the holidays are in full force. \u00a0Christmas music is already blaring through the audio system in most stores. \u00a0I don’t actually mind. \u00a0I’m in the minority, no doubt. \u00a0But I love the music, any time, any where. \u00a0I still have a rather child-like reaction to the whole spectacle of Christmas. \u00a0I do honor it spiritually, as well. \u00a0I’m not solely a crass consumer and reveler. \u00a0Honoring the memories of my youth is what’s brought home for me through the music, however, and those memories are worth savoring.<\/p>\n
Holiday decorations, stacked neatly in my hall closet, are beginning to call to me. \u00a0It’s not a job I salivate over, not like making Christmas candy or designing a card, but if I want the effects of the bright lights and the holiday scenes on the tables, the wall unit, embracing the sliding doors and hanging on the exterior of the house; I have to take action. \u00a0The work is all-consuming but the finished product is lovely. \u00a0The pleasure it brings me is worth the effort.<\/p>\n
The community I live in goes all out with decorations, which is pretty interesting since I’m in Florida for winters, but the northerners who come south obviously bring a little, or a lot, of the northern habit with them. This suits me fine. \u00a0The culd-de-sac at the entrance to our community will be a winter wonderland in a few days. \u00a0The only thing missing will be the snow. \u00a0It wouldn’t surprise me if some year they covered their lawns with artificial snow.<\/p>\n
What’s ever so important during the holidays is to remember those who have less, and their numbers are increasing, unfortunately. \u00a0If every one of us began putting away our left-over change at day’s end to put into the nearest Salvation Army bucket or bought food for the myriad food shelves that are running low on stock, we’d be making a difference in the lives of many, or at least the life of one.<\/p>\n
I will return to this topic more than once during the season. \u00a0We simply must help out where we can, I think. The hungry among us deserve nothing less.<\/p>\n
